LIKE A CHILD

To inquire of God is to posture yourself in awe and wonder—like a child. The definition of the word “inquire” is to ask questions, probe, look, or investigate. We only investigate the things we desire to know more about. If we have no hunger to learn or do not have a revelation of our lack of understanding, we will not investigate, ask questions, or inquire. Children are seen as some of the best inquirers because they understand that they don’t have all the answers. They look to those wiser than them to instruct, guide, and give understanding. This is the essence of conversation with God—inquiring of God to find out what is on His heart and His mind. When is the last time you looked to God to ask for His insight on a situation, decision, or circumstance?

In Matthew 18:3, Jesus says, “…unless ye be converted and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.” There is a child-likeness required in conversation with God. To truly inquire, we must approach God in humility and hunger to see things through His perspective. If this isn’t something you desire or practice regularly, it could be that you are being filled and temporarily satisfied by something that was never meant to do so or there is an area to grow in greater humility with God.

Today, ask God to restore your child-likeness with Him!

PRAYER

Father, thank You for making a way for me to commune with You. Forgive me for any area where I’ve lost the awe and wonder of You. You are the Lord of my life! Restore childlike awe and wonder to me. Amen.

APPLICATION

• What areas of your life have you stopped inquiring of God? Why?
• Repent and give those areas back to God. Ask Him for insight!
• Ask God to restore awe, wonder, and the joy of salvation back to you!
