Day 10 - Highest Praise

At the end of most championship games, It’s become normal and almost expected that the winning team hoists the trophy into the air as the crowds loudly cheer. Then the athlete who is named the Most Valuable Player approaches the microphone and shouts out praise saying something along the lines of, “Glory to God,” or “I’m thankful to the Man upstairs for this win.”

It’s easy to give God glory when things are going great and you’re standing on top of the world. But what about when life is in the dumps?

As we read today, we learn that Joseph has been in prison for “some time.” We don’t know quite how long, but we can read through context that it's been several years- enough to be promoted to a leadership position in the jail.

As he has taken this new role, Joseph has another experience with dreams. But this time, they are not dreams of his own. Instead, he is asked by the cupbearer and the king’s baker to interpret their dreams. When they come to him, this is how he responds...

“Interpreting dreams is God’s business,” Joseph replied.- Genesis 40:8

Most people would jump at the opportunity to have a get-out-of-jail-free card. These important officials wanted Joseph to share his thoughts and wisdom which would most likely lead him to more influence and a better life than he had. But Joseph didn't want that. He had no desire to try to steal God’s glory by saying he could explain the meaning of the dreams. He wanted to faithfully give God the glory, even if it meant he may spend more time in jail.

Joseph's humility pointed those around Him to God. It caused others to see that God is the one to be worshiped-not man. It's a counter-cultural way to live but it's a life that gives God the highest praise. Receiving glory from people is God's business, not man's!

What can you glorify God with today? Maybe it's giving Him credit for the blessings you’ve received relationally, the ways he’s gifted you on the field or in the classroom, or in some other area of your life. Take some time today to pray and show Him thankfulness for all that He has given you.
