Build the 5 Relationships You Really NeedSample
Human souls are designed for five types of relationships, but you can’t build and sustain this divine blueprint for your relationships without the Creator himself.
Jesus lived in deep connection with his Father, so his relational world flourished as a result. The Gospels testify to this connection at the Source from the very beginning of Jesus’ time on earth, beginning in the womb (Luke 1:35) and obvious from a young age (Luke 2:47). Years later, Jesus received a public heavenly acknowledgment of this connection when his Father spoke: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased” (Luke 3:22).
It was from this life-giving place in the center of his soul that Jesus moved into his work with the understanding that he was already seen and approved by his Father. He didn’t have to do anything to achieve life in his soul. The sin of others did not interrupt it. Even when Jesus found himself in the wilderness in intense physical and spiritual hunger, his trust for his Father was solid in the center.
As he constantly gave to others, the Source within him was an unending spiritual supply. He refilled through times of prayer (Luke 6:12). This ever-flowing, central connection to God was so trusted by Jesus that it was immovable, even in his darkest moment as the cross was imminent: “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will” (Matt. 26:39).
Your inner life needs this same unchanging, life-giving presence in the center. It is the Spirit of God that we receive as followers of Jesus. As created, embodied souls, we are made for this type of connection with God himself. When you are filled with him in the very deepest places, life flows from the middle outward into all your other connections—even into the empty spots that are created during the constant transitions and problems of our lives. When the right mix of people is missing, your bond with God will keep you standing. It also ensures even the strongest relationships function the way they should. He is the center of the whole design.
You’re invited into that connection today. Pray and ask Jesus to be your Source at the center so your other relationships will have the chance to thrive.
