DAY 5 OF 8

Day 5: Wisecrack

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” – Romans 8:28 (NIV)

Do you have dreams? Joseph sure did.

Joseph had dreams about his destiny. And it was God-supplied, God-sized dreams. So much so, that if God wasn’t in it, you could blame the boy for being too overly ambitious. The kid was a bit of a wisecrack. And his older brothers really didn’t like him for it.

While the first ten sons of Israel were tending sheep, Joseph must have been daydreaming in his rainbow robe about the moon, the stars, and the sun bowing down to him. While they were binding sheaves of grain, he probably envisioned how these sheaves would bow to him, like in his dreams.

Joseph’s dreams eventually proved to be for the greater good. Not only for his own selfish ambitions. The destiny of his family and offspring depended on the fulfilment of these dreams. Dreams only work when you do the work. And if your dream and God’s destiny for your life is in alignment, it becomes inevitable. Destiny digs deeper than dreams!

If you want to, you can read the rest of Joseph’s story in Genesis 39-50. But here’s a few spoiler alerts:

-Joseph always served God faithfully. Despite being abandoned by his brothers, enslaved in Egypt, and wrongfully imprisoned for actually doing the right thing. Even when dreams seemed failed, Joseph held on to his God-given destiny.

-Joseph always served in a capacity of leadership. Even while enslaved, he was the head of his master’s household affairs. And even while imprisoned, he was assigned as overseer over the other prisoners. His destiny was to lead with wisdom, and even in smaller capacities, he still stepped up with due diligence.

-Joseph ended up saving both the Egyptian nation and his own family from a great famine through wise and diligent leadership. Thirteen-years after his first dreams, he became a ruler in Egypt, second in command only to Pharoah himself. Destiny digs deeper than dreams.

What dream has God placed in your heart? Or which dreams are from the world’s desires drawing your attention to themselves instead?

Maybe God has not appeared to you in a literal dream during the night, but there are things always swirling around in your heart. Things that are tough to understand or discern for now. Things that might even scare you, but you know it comes from the goodness of God. Remember, the God-sized dream will also be a God supplied dream.

Maybe you have felt God calling you to a specific destiny, but you don’t see it happening at all yet. Stay patient, be persistent, and keep pursuing God. If it’s from Him, it will come to fruition. Dig deep, do the work, and stay close to Him. Destiny digs deeper.

» What dream has God placed in your heart? What struggles or successes have you experienced in its fulfilment?

» How can you know or discern which dreams are in bed with worldly desires, and which are knocking on the door of a godly destiny?

» In which ways can simply going through the motions and maintaining the status quo keep us from what God has in store for us? How can you guard against this?

About this Plan

RAW Spirituality

RAW Spirituality is a journey through the encounters of men with God before any religious establishment. At that time, encountering God was wild, personal, rugged and raw. Spirituality is more about relationship than religion. The men of ancient times experienced this firsthand, and their stories still encourage us to this day to encounter God in similar ways.
