Mentoring Lessons- Serving Adventure Sports Athletesਨਮੂਨਾ

The action sports culture
What are the unique features of an action sports community?**
One important feature of the action sports culture is the freedom of self-expression.
They are typically individualistic because action sports is not built around teams. I learned they tend to see their sport as a lifestyle rather than just a leisure pursuit.
You will learn, as I have, that action sports people are gathered in tribal communities, each with its own unique culture, vocabulary, and values. These cultures are unique to each sport but have similarities to other action sports tribes. For example, surfing and skating are unique in culture but are also similar.
Athletes are also about the thrill of trying new things and advancing one's skill – riding a bigger wave and developing a new trick. Therefore, there can be a lot of pressure to perform well in order to belong.
Another feature of action sports is the culture of 'cool'. This can be a mask to hide personal fear and emotion.
The ‘cool’ attitude can be a trap that inhibits an abundant life and keeps other people distant.
Scripture to ponder –
John 8:36
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Key Lesson: True freedom is only found in Christ.

About this Plan

Adventure sports often push athletes to their physical and mental limits. As Christians, we can serve these athletes by offering support, encouragement, and prayer, while modeling Christ’s love and endurance. Through mentorship and community, we can help them find purpose, balance, and spiritual growth in the thrill of adventure. This study explores serving adventure sports athletes from experiences within the sports movement.
