We all know someone with a lot of self-confidence. They seemingly have no fear of getting up and speaking in front of a crowd. They don’t mind getting into an argument with a friend if they believe something strongly enough. They take risks that some of us would never take because they believe in themselves. If you were one of Jesus’ disciples the night He walked on water, and you saw Peter step out of the boat to join Him, you might think: “That Peter, he sure does have a lot of self-confidence.” After all, it takes boldness to believe you can defy the laws of nature.
But Peter’s confidence wasn’t in himself. It wasn’t in what he could do either. He had no secret power to walk on waves. Instead, his confidence was in Jesus. That’s why he said to Jesus: “Tell me to come to you on the water” (Matthew 14:28). He wanted Jesus’ authority to do the impossible. That’s the secret to success in spiritual things. It doesn’t come from firing ourselves up to accomplish hard things—it comes from believing that God has the power to do anything, and when we ask Him for help, He will help us! With Jesus, there’s no lack of power or authority. He is the King of the universe! So, walk in step with the King of the Universe to see the things He has in store for you that are more than you can imagine. And then, when you are facing something bigger than you, don’t focus on your lack of strength and power. Focus on His abundance of strength and power. Ask Him to help you do what He’s asking you to do. He will. You’ll do amazing things—together.

About this Plan
History tells many stories of drama regarding kings and queens. This governmental system of power and our fascination with it has existed throughout history—even in Biblical times. In this devotional, we’re going to take a closer look at some of the reigns of the kings who ruled over God’s people and what we can learn from the lives and reigns of the people who led God’s people over the centuries.
