Lasting Ever

DAY 2 OF 5

THE GIFT OF BEING SEEN

I (Rebecca) often say to my kids, “Look at my love eyes.” What I’m actually saying is “See the tenderness in the way I look at you.” When we truly see God, we behold the tenderness in His gaze as He beholds us, flaws and all. The God of the universe sees us, knows us, and loves us despite our mistakes and messes.

Being seen and cherished by God is not something we earn. We do not need to perform well enough to achieve an admiring glance or applause from our Creator. Before any of us ever did anything at all, God looked upon us and, in His grace, loved and continues to love us. We’ve been the apple of His eye since we were conceived in our mothers’ wombs.

Psalm 139:15-16 so wonderfully sums this up by saying:

My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

The beauty of looking back at our lives is that we can now more clearly see God’s gaze was upon us. His look of endearment was not a result of anything we could ever do; He chooses to look through the lens of love at us all.

The fact that God sees us is a gift that is lasting ever.

Will you dare to look back at the God who loves you wholeheartedly? Will you decide to remain just as steadfast and faithful to Jesus when life is hard and scary and you cannot see the next step ahead?

Husband-and-wife team Rebecca St. James and Cubbie Fink have learned that the secret of lasting, in faith and in family life, is choosing to endure together, through the challenges and joys of our lives.
