Move With Compassion: A 7-Day Advent DevotionalSample
See: Melody’s story
“I’ve tried not to focus on my health issues, regardless of the medical emergencies I’ve endured. Instead, I thank God for every day and try to live it to the fullest.”
For someone looking in from the outside, it would be a surprise to hear Melody stay so positive, considering her history of health struggles. When Melody was just two years old, she was diagnosed with intestinal malrotation—ever since, Melody, now 11, has been a regular visitor to her local public hospital.
Despite this, Melody is well-known in her community for her resilience and faith. She has not allowed her condition to get in the way of her dream of becoming a gymnastics teacher—Melody is often seen around the community practicing gymnastics moves with her closest friends.
“Melody is a true fighter who does not complain about the medical issues she’s faced. In its place, she portrays hope. I love having her in my classroom because she’s a testimony of optimism to the younger generations,” says Yanisleidy, Melody’s tutor at the local Compassion Center.
Since registering at the age of three, the Compassion Center has supported her mother, Indiana, by paying for Melody’s medical tests, x-rays, and other treatments. The center has been a place where Melody has felt the love and care of Christ, which strengthens her own hopes and dreams.
“Melody’s medical treatment and her optimism have been the key combination to her perseverance,” says Indiana. “Despite her diagnosis, doctors agree that it’s treatable and that’s why she has managed to go on with her life.”
In the face of all the difficulties Melody has endured, she inspires her doctors, family, and community by living a life marked by faith and confidence in God’s watchful care over her.
Melody holds up her x-ray results with a big smile.
Feel: Jesus’ heart
When Jesus saw great faith in those in need, He was amazed and moved to meet their needs.
Move: Your action
Melody’s life is a testimony to all those around her. Her faith amid her struggles with health reveals God's goodness and trustworthiness to her entire community. Despite still being a child, Melody’s attitude and confidence inspire even younger generations enrolled at her Compassion Center.
Move with compassion toward those whose lives you shape—that may be your children, students, or even coworkers who look to you for guidance. Set an example of faith with your attitude in every circumstance, as well as with the words you say. Are you a grumbler? Or are you known for your joy?

About this Plan
The Bible often tells us that Jesus was “moved with compassion.” What does that mean, and how can it inform our lives today? At Christmas, we focus on one of Jesus’ biggest moves of all: He became flesh and “moved into the neighborhood” (John 1:14). This Advent, we invite you to explore your global neighborhood and see how Jesus continues to move with compassion in the world today.
