How to Hear God's VoiceSample
Way #5: Confirmation
The fifth way God speaks to us is through confirmations.
Let’s say you’re praying and reading the Word. You think the Holy Spirit may be speaking to you, and you’re prayerfully considering what you heard. Then, a brother or a sister comes to you and says exactly what you thought you heard, though they had no idea what was going on. That’s confirmation.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33
God uses people to confirm His words to us, but we must not be led by confirmations, just as we are not to be led by any spiritual gift. The Bible tells us to test all things. We must stay focused on the Word of God. There are times when God will use a spiritual gift to speak to you. There are times when He’ll use a brother or a sister to confirm something you received in prayer, but God will primarily use the Scriptures. So again, I encourage you to focus on relishing and receiving God’s Word.
What is the main takeaway from this plan that believers can apply today?
The reality is that you have the mind of Jesus. You hold the thoughts, feelings, and purposes of His heart.
Notice also the word mind in this verse. Our fellowship with God helps us make decisions. How? The oneness created in our communion, or harmony, with God transmits to us the thoughts—the mind—of Christ. The Spirit of God is in you, wants to guide your steps, and wants to reveal the deep things in the Word to you; He does this through communion. Communion is to have a relationship; it is to share life. It is a sweet exchange.
The definition of communion is the exchange of thoughts and feelings on an intimate level. That is what happens when you commune with God. There is a sharing of thoughts and feelings on a very deep and personal level. You will find yourself receiving revelation from the Word, and you will see the Scriptures in light of the breath and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. You will begin to have His thoughts and exhibit the fruit of His Spirit. You will be in tune, in harmony, and in cadence with the Spirit by communing with Him.
This is a wonderful reality—the Spirit of God wants to speak with you and reveal His heart and mind to you! I pray that these last several days have given you the vital means to connect on a deeper level with the Lord.
