3-Minute Devotions for Teen Guys

DAY 4 OF 7

An Authentic Failure

John Wayne portrayed movie characters who were self-reliant, strong, and despised the idea of failure or weakness. While he was an admirable actor, I’m not sure he’s the perfect role model for Christian manhood. Christian men understand they will fail. They understand that compared to God, they are weak. Knowing this doesn’t stop them from being brave and shouldn’t prevent them from hitting the gym. However, it does mean they should be honest about their need for a Savior. Most of our spiritual muscles are puny. God rescues the weak. He gives grace to the humble. He resists those who act like they don’t need Him. The power of God is available once we admit we need it. Being an authentic Christian guy means cooperating with God in life transformation by being honest enough to say you don’t always get it right.

Prayer: Dear God, it would be nice to say I’ve never failed, but I’d be lying. If I say I don’t need You, I refuse the only strength I can reliably access. Show Your strength in my weakness, and I will have another reason to honor You. Amen.
