From Fear to Reverence - a Journey of Wisdom and Intimacy With GodSample
The Presence of God and the Obedience that Comes from Wisdom
The story of David bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem teaches us about the importance of obeying God in a correct and reverent manner. When David initially attempted to move the Ark, he did so the wrong way, placing it on a new cart pulled by oxen. During the transport, Uzzah reached out to steady the Ark when the oxen stumbled, and he was immediately struck dead for touching the Ark. This tragic event halted the celebration and made David realize that something was wrong with the way they were handling the Ark.
David then sought God to understand the correct way to transport the Ark. He discovered that the Ark was to be carried on the shoulders of the Levites, according to the instructions given by God to Moses. When David adjusted his approach and followed the divine instructions, the Ark was successfully transported to Jerusalem, and the people celebrated with great joy.
This story highlights the importance of careful and reverent obedience to God's instructions. Even when we have good intentions, it is crucial to obey in the way that God has prescribed. The fear of the Lord leads us to seek His will and follow it faithfully, without trying to improvise or do things our own way.
By obeying correctly, we experience the presence of God in a full and blessed way. When David corrected his mistake and obeyed God's way, he and all of Israel enjoyed the glorious presence of the Lord. May we learn from David's experience and always seek to obey God with reverence and care, recognizing that His instructions are for our good and His glory.
