Dancing With Change

DAY 2 OF 7

Day 2: The Nature of Change:

What is the nature of change? Change, from a biblical perspective, is a recurring theme throughout the Bible. Ironically, although we need to be open to change, we serve a God with an unchanging nature. He always remains constant, a truth pointed out in Malachi 3:6 (NIV): “For I the Lord do not change.” This assures us we can trust in His faithfulness and rely on His promises, even in the uncertainties of life.

Transformation through Christ

Second Corinthians 5:17 talks about how if anyone is in Christ, they become a new creation. This highlights the opportunity for personal change and growth through a relationship with Jesus. Paul, who wrote the letter to the church at Corinth, had experienced the most radical of transformations, outlined in Acts: “As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?’ ‘Who are you, Lord?’ Saul asked. ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ he replied. ‘Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do’” (Acts 9:3–6).

Spiritual growth

Change is often accompanied by challenges and trials, but those can be opportunities for spiritual growth. James 1:2–4 encourages believers to find the upside of trials: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Renewing our minds

Romans 12:2 urges believers to renew their minds and not conform to the patterns of this world. This speaks to the vital importance of aligning our thoughts and perspectives with God’s truth, which can bring about transformation and a renewed outlook on life.
