Day 2: The Cost of Discipleship
“And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:27).
Theme
A mysterious stranger known as “the Apostle” tasks Nate with a dangerous mission—deliver unrevised Bible copies to seven underground churches across three states. Nate views this smuggling operation as a holy calling to boldly bring God’s unaltered Word to those believers who have been spiritually oppressed. He is driven by conviction to risk everything as a bearer of God’s truth.
From Nate and his team risking imprisonment to Jim losing his wife, the film depicts the powerful sacrifices required to wholeheartedly follow Jesus.
Reflection
- What sacrifices did you see the characters make to pursue God’s calling on their lives? Which sacrifices impacted you the most and why?
- Have you ever felt clearly led by God to do something that required great personal costs or hardships? What was that like?
- Jesus says we must count the cost before deciding to follow Him (Luke 14:28–29). Why is it important to seriously consider the sacrifices of discipleship?
