Always Supported
Carry one another’s burdens; in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
GALATIANS 6:2 CSB
For many of us, getting sick is a painful reminder of our relationship status. Even if you are at a place where you are content with your singleness, when you’re sick, all you want is for someone to be there to make you some healing soup, run out and get you medicine, and bring you a glass of orange juice as you melt into the couch. Whether you live on your own, with a roommate, or with family, sickness can become a time when your walls are down, and you are susceptible to the track of lies that play in the back of your mind. Lies such as “no one cares for you” and “you have to do it all on your own” may echo in your head as you curl up in bed, feeling even more miserable than before. That is until you start taking others up on the offer to help. You see, your friends and family want to help to heal you, but you have to say yes. It can be humbling to admit, especially for us single women who pride ourselves on being independent, that sometimes we do indeed need help. But as soon as you acknowledge to yourself and to others that you need them, your loneliness will vanish, and you’ll feel the love and support you need as your body heals.
In Galatians, Paul calls Christians to carry one another’s burdens. Just as we desire to help others in need, our brothers and sisters in Christ desire to do the same for us! All we have to do is ask for help. It can be difficult, but if you put aside your pride and ask others for help, you’ll be blessed by each person who is ready to rally around you. Just because you’re single doesn’t mean you have or need to go through tough times alone. Ask for help when you need it so the body of Christ can be there for you.
Right Now Reminder:
Whether you’re sick or just having a rough week, ask those around you for help when you need it. Oftentimes others are waiting for an opportunity to show you God’s love in a tangible way.
