DAY 4 OF 12

Majesty

The entrance into the Christian life is one of responding to the Gospel of the Kingdom. The most basic criterion for a kingdom to exist is that it must have a king.

Though the incarnation of Christ is a story of the Lord dressed in humility, born into obscurity, and tasked with being despised by men, the truth remains that Christ is the second person of the Trinity. He is God made flesh.

Therefore, if Christ is indeed God, though He assumes the form of a human being, it must indeed be true that Christ is God and ruler over all created things. He is clothed in wonder, reigning in power and the object of all praise and adoration!

The hymn of Philippians 2:5-11 is a beautiful presentation of the Gospel message. Jesus, who is God Himself, came down low to save us. He humbled Himself to the utmost by dying on the Cross. And because of this perfect display of humility and servitude, the Father exalted Him above all powers and authorities. His Name is above all other names. Jesus thus has authority over the heavens, the earth, and everything under the earth. He is the preeminent One.

Jesus is inviting you and me to become part of this Gospel story by placing our trust and allegiance in Him as our King. Christ is the King of the universe, but we often refuse to make Him the King of our lives. Reflect on your own life. What areas of your life still need to be surrendered under the rulership of Jesus? In other words, where do you still serve other lords (idols)? Often, we can make certain things in our lives so important that they become idols. We do not allow Jesus to take control. We do not allow Jesus’ will in these areas. But Jesus is the King of kings. Every knee will bow before Him, and every tongue will confess that He is Lord.

In prayer, surrender these things before Jesus. Then, declare the following: “Lord Jesus, You are the exclusive King over all of my life. I give you full control. Have Your way in and through me. I declare that You, and You alone, are my Lord and Saviour.”

About this Plan

Welcome Home

ShofarBand is a South African worship and songwriting collective. In January 2024, we released our live album, Welcome Home. This plan is based on those songs, telling the story of a God who is both transcendent and intimate, both high above and near to us. May this plan and these songs enlarge our view of the love and holiness of God, creating space for encounters with His Holy Spirit.
