The Battle Plan for Your Life | Lessons From JerichoSample
The city of Jericho was a highly fortified city. It was surrounded by massive stone walls that were at least 13 feet high, with watchtowers rising about 28 feet.
The city was practically impenetrable, and it was a major city that the Israelites had to defeat in the book of Joshua.
Joshua 6 starts with mentioning that the gates of Jericho were securely barred because of the Israelites, and that no one was allowed to enter in or leave the city.
To defeat a city that was completely guarded, and almost indestructible, God gives Joshua the fighting plan.
But the strange part is that the plan does not include siege ramps, or swords and arrows.
It doesn’t involve any military force.
God tells Joshua to march around the city with all the armed men for 6 day.
And on the 7th day, they are told to March around the city with the priests blowing the trumpets.
Now, any military strategist would tell Joshua that he had gone cuckoo for doing this. Because it seems ridiculous to walk around a city and expect anything to happen.
But on the 7th day, Joshua commanded the priests to sound the trumpets and said, “Shout. For the LORD has given you the city!” When the trumpets were blown and the army shouted, the walls of this impenetrable city came crashing down.
Israel won the battle, and destroyed Jericho.
Often times, God commands us to do things that are contrary to the wisdom of the world. Commands from the Bible can often be too difficult to obey or follow, especially when we are in the middle of a battle in our lives.
The world may look at us as if we are fools, and give us all kinds of practical tips, even ones that are contrary to God’s Word, to get out of the battle we are in.
But the Bible tells us that all the wisdom of the world is foolishness in God; and that the ‘foolishness’ of God is wiser than human wisdom.
When the battle seems impossible, only God can give the battle plan that will lead us to victory. And the plan may seem absolutely ridiculous – but God knows what He is doing.
His ways are higher, His thoughts are wiser.
Trust His plan. Trust His wisdom.
And like Joshua, shout your way into victory with praise & thanksgiving.
