Abundant Grace

DAY 5 OF 5

BUILD EACH OTHER UP

“You do good work.”

Everyone has those core memories that make a lasting impact. My grandfather’s words have always stuck with me and will continue to stand out for the rest of my life. For me, spending a Saturday morning with my dad and grandpa to work on lawnmowers led to the encouraging words that continually motivate me to do my best. I doubt either of them remembers all those moments, but I always will.

Encouragement is a huge factor in our response to God’s grace. When we live in response to what we have received, our common interaction with others should be to “encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11). We have the opportunity in every conversation to show the love of Jesus. We have the chance in all our relationships to convey the grace God has given.

Giving encouragement may take a little extra effort and attention, but the impact certainly goes a long way. With just a little focus, a few kind words can make the difference in a person’s day. All it takes is a little phrase like “Keep up the good work!” or “Those shoes are awesome!” or “Thanks for being my friend.” Truthfully, we never know the impact our encouragement will bring. A few kind words could last a lifetime.

So let’s be hope and light, vessels of grace in a sea of despair. Let’s shine with joy and reflect compassion and kindness. Let’s build each other up. Our words are weighty, but they don’t have to be heavy or harsh. May we constantly share the grace we have in Jesus through our encouraging words.

Who can you encourage today? How can you incorporate encouragement into your regular routine? In what ways does knowing God’s grace in our own lives motivate us to encourage others?

We hope this plan encouraged you. Learn more about Abundant Grace by Will Kassner with Courtney Kassner here.
