Jeremiah Week 2 – Day 2

Newton’s third law states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Science fans could into detail about object A and object B, but the rest of us likely had parents who reminded us of this law as they handed down a consequence for our actions. We don’t like hard, emotional, regret-inducing consequences. Sometimes we even blame God for our consequences. “Why would God let this happen?” “How can God be loving if bad things happen?” “God, I said I’m sorry. Why won’t you take this away from me?”

God’s goodness and love are not defined by the happiness of the recipient. When we experience the consequences of sin, both ours and others, it is not because God is unloving, but rather because God’s love includes justice and sees beyond the immediate to what will bring us long-lasting healing and joy.
