Day 4 - He Tells Us About the Future
John 16: 12 “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’ (NLT)
I find it interesting that when Jesus first introduces the Holy Spirit, He tells us that one of the main things He will do is "tell you about the future." The Holy Spirit wants to tell us what’s coming in our lives, the lives of those around us, and the world. The question is this: Are we going to put a high value on His voice and words and partner our faith with what He shows us?
You might be saying to yourself, or asking God something like, "This hasn't been my experience."
Remember, just because we haven't experienced a reality found within the Father doesn't mean this reality is not available to us. Jesus prophesied, "He will tell you about the future."
We see this in, Acts 11: 27 And in these days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch. 28 Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar. 29 Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea. (NKJV)
The Holy Spirit speaks to a believer and reveals to him a coming famine, and we know that in the fourth century; historian Orosius documented a famine in Syria during the years 46 and 47 A.D. This account was later translated by King Alfred of England in the Middle Ages and excerpted in The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle.
The Holy Spirit told believers about the future, and they believed His words and were able to help their brothers and sisters with support in a time of need.
Prayer: Lord, show me how to see and hear You in greater detail so that I can continually posture my heart correctly for what You have for me in my future.
