Abiding in Him

DAY 5 OF 7

He cares for the branches connected to me by lifting and propping up the fruitless branches and pruning every fruitful branch to yield a greater harvest." - John 15:2 TPT

Behold another wonder concerning fruitfulness: God, the husbandman purges fruitful branches and lifts up fruitless ones.

I often tell people that God is the one doing the work in us through Christ and He will never fail nor stop until He has achieved in us what he intends to achieve. He knows how to handle fruitful believers and what to do to fruitless ones. Let's look at this for a moment:

1) God purges fruitful branches: This means that for every fruitful Christian who is expressing the Christian life to a degree, God will purge and cleanse them so they can be more fruitful in their Christian living. It means that the reward for fruitfulness is more pruning for more fruitfulness. Blessed is the man that God prunes and purges for he shall soon become the very effulgence of God's light and life in all its fullness.

2) God lifts up unfruitful branches: This shows the faithfulness of God to those he calls. Just as a farmer lifts a plant off the ground in order to enhance its growth, in the same way God "lifts up" unfruitful Christians to enhance their spiritual vegetation. Whatever way God chooses to deal with such believers is up to Him. God will cast none away but will see to it that each one grows. He doesn't cast off failures; rather he enhances them to succeed. Such is the character of this eternal Husbandman.

As long as a branch is in the vine it can produce fruit. As long as we are in Christ, His life will flow through us. And all this will be to the glory of God our Husbandman.
