Dinner With Jesus

DAY 20 OF 30

When we think of the people we tend to gravitate towards the most, it’s those who are the easiest to be around. We don’t have to try very hard. We can be ourselves, we can relax, we can let our guard down. In other words, we love the idea of being with people who don’t make us have to work. And what takes work? Practicing everything Paul wrote about in the verse above: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. And we never practice those things more than when we’re with people who aren’t like us.

It’s easy to be with people who we get along with and who don’t ask much of us. But as soon as we’re with those we have a harder time relating to or understanding, we realize how difficult it is to practice the values Paul wrote about here. But it’s in these scenarios where it matters the most! What makes us more like Jesus is exercising the muscles of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience with the people who ask the most of us.

About this Plan

Dinner With Jesus

Some of our most meaningful memories revolve around sharing a meal. Food has a way of taking an ordinary gathering and making it memorable. That’s why it makes sense that some of Jesus’ most impactful conversations and encounters happened over a shared meal. Let's look at some of the meals Jesus shared with all sorts of different people and see what we might learn for our own time and context.
