The God of Peace

In Ephesians 3:18–19, Paul expresses to the Ephesians his desire that they “may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”

This is our deepest longing for those we love. God is moving and working and preparing minds to receive Him. But in the end, the answer to the question of whether God will save our loved ones is: We don’t know. We do know that that isn’t the most important question. Because our hope is not found in answers. Our hope is found in the goodness of God and His unlimited love. In other words, we don’t need to understand everything that God is doing when we understand who He is.

Here are some questions that take us back to the heart of our faith:

  • Do we believe that the Lord loves us?
  • Do we believe that He loves our loved ones?
  • Do we believe that the Lord is in control of all things?
  • Do we trust in His timing and His plan?
  • Do we believe that the Lord is good?
  • Do we need answers to all our questions to keep believing in Him?

While some things are not ours to know, we can take heart in the truth that we know all that we need to know.

Merciful, mighty, sovereign Lord, thank You that You are God and I am not. Thank You that You intimately know the hearts of my lost friends and family members. Thank You that You love them more than I can even possibly imagine. Please free me from fear and worry over their eternities and draw me into Your deep care when my heart is troubled. Remind me who You are and that You hold the people I love in Your hands. Refine me in my pain and remind me also of Your deep love for me. Grow our relationship and strengthen my trust in You. Father, I humbly ask for Your deep and abiding peace as I wait in hope for the people I love to know and worship You alongside me. Amen.
