What Jesus Said About Fathers and Mothers Causing Spiritual Wounds

DAY 6 OF 13

Fathers and mothers who inflict wounds

Unreasonable fathers/mothers

These fathers and mothers do not listen and have no mercy but enforce their own will without listening to reason. This leads to confusion about values, panic, fear, and uncertainty about their self-worth. Such children will lose heart because they are just never good enough; they will develop a feeling that they always fail; they are always wary and apprehensive about the next terrible thing that will happen. The result is that they will find it difficult to understand that God is righteous, reasonable, and merciful and that God loves them unconditionally. When such children become Christians, they will expect God to be unreasonable and expect things from them that they will not be able to do, and they will also not know what God is expecting from them.

Dishonest fathers/mothers

Some fathers and mothers are not honest enough to say, for instance, that it is impossible to do something or fulfil a specific promise. The children stop hoping that promises will be fulfilled. They will begin to resent and despise their parents; the child rejects the authority of their parents as well as rules and principles. No healthy value system is formed in the child. Such children grow up believing that you cannot expect anything from life. They find it very difficult to trust anyone. These same thoughts and emotions are transferred to God. They will struggle to trust God, believe His promises, and believe He is good and has good plans for them.
