The Captive Cause - Discover Your CallingSample
Day 6– Finding the ‘Sweet Spot’ (Part 1)
"Why am I the way I am?"
You are formed with a purpose in mind, and at some point, we need to get a revelation that we have been created on purpose for a purpose. We were designed with an activity in mind — something that we will put our hand to which puts into practice that which God has created us for.
We know that as part of the body of Christ, we all have a part to play. As individuals, we make up the whole, and the whole is more important than the individual components that make it up because together we are more effective. But individually, we are graced with the gifts we have been given. God has made us each unique, for a reason.
The fact that we were designed by God should give us great confidence, but also incredible humility because it was not from our own doing. The scriptures tell us to not think of ourselves more highly than we ought to, but to live a life of faith that honours God with the gifts He gifted us! (Romans 12)
Our effectiveness can’t be separated from the bigger purpose of the body of Christ as a whole. We are most importantly called to make disciples and to lead people to life in Christ, as we explored yesterday. But, as Christ’s ambassadors, we each individually have a place of effectiveness - we will call this the sweet spot.
Good news — this means that we don’t have to do everything! There are many people, all with their gifts, and we don’t have to be them. You have your own gifts and abilities to outwork.
Your sweet spot will never separate you from the body. If you find that your sweet spot causes you to be disconnected from the body, either you have stepped out of the timing, place, or grace of God OR you have stopped prioritizing the connection to the body. We are not talking about Sunday morning attendance, but hearts and lives connected — where you are shaped, encouraged, and held in prayer.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made, designed in the mind of God before you were born, to have effectiveness for the Kingdom of Heaven. Until we are with Him, we can’t be effective for Him. We may be successful by the world’s standards, but not for the Kingdom. We are drawn to Him as our foundation so that all that we do will glorify and honor Him.
First called to the mission of Him, but then called to be effective for His Kingdom as we live a life ‘worthy of the calling’, as we activate our lives, moving in the direction of the Father.
Today's Questions:
- What are your gifts and abilities?
- Have you allowed them to cause you to be separated from the body?
- How can you ensure your gifts are continually submitted to God?
About this Plan
"What is my Calling?" If you've been in church for a while (or even a little bit) chances are you've heard this question before... but what does it all mean, and how do we even find our calling? Over the next seven days, we are going to explore this idea. We will ‘bust some myths’ and become confident and secure in the call of God on our lives.
