What Jesus Said About God, His FatherSample
Doctrine of the Trinity
The doctrine of the Trinity is a central belief in Christianity that affirms the existence of one God in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. Although the term "Trinity" is not explicitly found in the Bible, the concept is derived from various Scripture passages that reveal the threefold nature of God.
One of the clearest indications of the Trinity is found in the Great Commission given by Jesus to His disciples. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus instructs them, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This verse demonstrates the coexistence of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as distinct persons who share a common name and authority.
Furthermore, at Jesus' baptism, the three persons of the Trinity are revealed simultaneously. Matthew 3:16-17 recounts the event: And when Jesus was baptised, immediately He went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on Him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.' Here, the Father's voice, the Son in human form, and the Holy Spirit descending in the form of a dove all manifest together.
In John 10:30, Jesus declares, I and the Father are one, affirming His unity with the Father. Additionally, in 2 Corinthians 13:14, the apostle Paul offers a Trinitarian benediction, saying, The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. This verse acknowledges the distinct roles of each person of the Trinity while affirming their unity in bestowing grace, love, and fellowship upon believers.
Worship Him: Take time to worship God the Trinity in His incomprehensibility.
