Learn Rest From the Psalms: Rest Well ResolutionSample
Letting Go of Stress
Have you ever stressed about a problem beyond your control?
Invested years toward a dream, and you’re still waiting for a breakthrough?
Me too. Unfortunately, when I work toward huge goals, I tend to pick up responsibilities that don’t belong to me.
So I’ve learned to align my work and rest with God’s answers to these three questions:
1.God, what’s my part to play?
2. God, what’s mine to carry?
3. God, what am I to trust back to You?
Several years ago, I felt like God dropped a dream in my heart for a book about how a wife can partner with God in her marriage. Cutting the multi-year story short, I started writing, learning the industry, and picking up responsibilities that were not mine to carry.
I remember one tear-filled conversation as I talked with God about “no’s” coming in from publishers. I truly felt like the book would be out in the world and helping people already… if God had entrusted it to somebody else.
Can you relate to that struggle?
My team needs a different leader.
My child needs a better parent.
God deserves a better follower.
Well, you know what God said next?
“Keep doing your part. I will do Mine.”
God never promised me that the book would land with a publisher, or that anyone would read it. But He told me to write and to follow as He led me. That was my part to play, and trusting Him was my part to carry.
We don’t always see the direct correlation between what we do and how God moves. But within two weeks of that prayerful conversation, I got an offer from my publisher, and A Wife’s Secret to Happiness came out in 2017.
Our very best efforts are worrisome and wasted when we try to take over God’s role. Even in your most significant needs, you can walk and work with God in His presence, at His pace, by His provision, and with His peace.
You can trust God to follow through on His care for you.
Let go of the stress and take hold of the rest God offers, “for God gives rest to his loved ones.” (Psalm 127:2b NLT)
