Prepare the Way for the Lord

DAY 3 OF 4

Prepare Your Environment

Let’s do another “spiritual health” check, how is the environment of your life? Is your life highly distracted? If so, what needs to be removed or strengthened? What is God asking you to put in order today? What areas are a little “muddy”, stopping the way for God to work in and through your life?

The environment needs to shift from being cluttered, overly complex and convoluted to being clear, simple, and straight.

The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
“Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make straight in the desert
A highway for our God.
Every valley shall be exalted
And every mountain and hill brought low;
The crooked places shall be made straight
And the rough places smooth;
The glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
And all flesh shall see it together;
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
- Isaiah 40:3-5

The creation of a road that is straight, unmistakable, level and smooth conjures the picture of a journey made without difficulty and therefore with certainty of arrival.

The story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42 is a great example of how distracted we can get, doing good things but not recognizing that when Jesus is in the room, intimacy with God is our priority. The story really shows us that few things are needed. Intimacy with God is the primary pursuit! To know God deeply, closely, in a dynamic relationship is the goal. What is blocking, what is distracting, what is competing and tearing you away from God?

In Christ, we are the temple of the Holy Spirit!

And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.” - Matthew 21:12-13
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I wonder, what is your temple full of? What has cluttered your mind, body, and soul? Where does prayer fit in your life? Where does God fit in your life?

How have you designed your home, your calendar, and your weekly schedule to allow a clear path for the glory of God to be revealed in your life?

Prayer Point: Lord, I ask that you would show me how to declutter my environment, removing the things that are stopping me from consecrating my life to you. Show me what needs to be cleared from the path and how to prioritize time with you.
