Renewing Your Purpose | Ordinary AngelsSample
Can Make the Impossible...
We all face situations that overwhelm us.
We all face situations that overwhelm us. It could be something that seems impossible or scary. It could feel like someone drowning without a life jacket or climbing a mountain unprepared.
In "Ordinary Angels," Ed faced an impossible situation. His three-year-old daughter Michelle required an urgent liver transplant. They needed to travel over 600 miles immediately for the operation. Unfortunately, as this clip shows, things took a turn for the worse.
What would you do if you were in Ed’s situation? It would be easy to lose hope and give up. Yet the Bible says that God can do more than we ever hoped or imagined. God has shut the mouth of lions, opened the womb of barren women, and even spoken the world into existence. Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead—the list goes on. The God that did all that is the same God we serve today.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego faced an impossible situation. They were to bow down to a Babylonian idol, but God commanded them to serve only Him. They stood firm and faced the punishment of death in a blazing furnace. They responded with a statement of faith that God could deliver them. However, they also said that even if they died, they would not serve false gods or worship the image of gold. Regardless of how God answered their prayer, they were going to continue to follow Him.
Faith is the key element here. Elisabeth Elliott says, “Faith is not a feeling. Faith is willed obedience in action.” The key point about faith is who or what you decide to put your faith in. Imagine you fall off a cliff and grab a branch. The most important thing is how strong and sturdy that branch is, not how you feel or what you wish. Everyone puts their faith in something. We choose to put our faith in the trustworthy, all-powerful, unchangeable God.
Application Questions:
- Can you trust God in the midst of the impossible? If things don’t go the way you want, will you still follow and trust Him?
- What are you putting your faith in? Is it in God or something else?
