Maybe you have plenty of followers on your favorite social media platform. Well, John the Baptist did too. Okay, he obviously wasn’t on social media, but the guy had a big following in life. And he was gaining even more! We would all like that, wouldn’t we? We all want more; it’s a product of our culture and natural for us as humans. But John the Baptist knew the clear distinction of what it meant to make following Jesus his priority. Jesus had to increase in John’s life, which meant John had to decrease. There had to be more of Jesus’ words, thoughts, and heart, and less of John’s ways of doing things. John’s example challenges us to do the same—to shift the focus away from ourselves and put it more toward Jesus.
So today, spend a few minutes tapping into prayer, focusing on who Jesus is and what He’s done for you. Ask for more of Him in your life every day.
