Faith & Love: A One Year Bible Reading Plan - Part 12Sample
Considering the weightiness and complexities of the book of Revelation, many believers are waiting to be rescued, much like a damsel in distress. The reality is that Jesus is returning for a Bride. We see something of the heart and intention of God in Genesis 1 & 2.
Genesis 1:26-28 reminds us that man is made in God’s image, after his own likeness. We are of the same kind. We are fully compatible with God. We carry the same value as Christ. This is true not because of our own hard work but because Christ paid the ultimate price on the cross.
The second truth that is revealed in this portion of Scripture is that it has always been God’s intention for us to be fruitful, multiply, and fill and subdue the earth. In other words, mankind has been created to take responsibility and provide leadership to his environment.
In Genesis 2:18, God declares that it is not good for the man to be alone. He takes a rib from Adam and fashions Eve from it. The first two people on earth become a union that would be fruitful, multiply, and subdue the earth. This is the first partnership on earth that prophesies of that greater partnership of Christ and His church.
When the writer of Revelation refers to a ‘Bride’, he is speaking of that close partnership between the Bridegroom and the Bride. There are no divided loyalties or allegiances. She is fully devoted to Him, in the same way that He was willing to lay down his life for her. Together, they unite for kingdom purposes with great joy and authority.
Two questions to ask yourself today –
- What does it mean to be the ‘Bride’ of Christ?
- How can you walk in greater partnership with Christ today?
