Making Peace Our Lifestyle

DAY 1 OF 4

The Guarantee and Message of Peace

To make peace our lifestyle, we must refocus our thoughts and affections on Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Once we understand the guarantee of our peace and its message and meaning for us, then we can respond in a way that will ensure a lifestyle of peace.

What is the guarantee of our peace? It is the promise that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Joel 2:32). Our peace is God’s gift. Because of His great love and mercy, He gave His life for us while we were still sinners. He has made it possible for our transgressions to be removed from us. We can choose to follow Him. Jesus said that whoever would come after Him, whoever wants to follow Him, will lay down their life. Instead of following their own desires, they will take up His. We have the power to call on the name of the Lord. We can allow the Prince of Peace to be the Lord of our lives.

The guarantee of our peace, the promise that everyone who calls on the Lord will be saved, is repeated twice in the New Testament. The first time is on the day of Pentecost, where the number of disciples multiplied as people responded to the gospel message preached by Peter and saw the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:21). The second time is in the apostle Paul’s letter to believers in Rome, affirming that “the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”

What is the message that peace brings? If the penalty for your sin has been paid in full by Jesus Christ, then you do not have to live in the past. Many Christians do not understand that there is no longer any need for guilt or remorse or for grief over past deeds or omissions. My friend, when you allow Christ to heal your yesterdays, you will begin to live in a new dimension of peace. Scripture affirms, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NASB). This echoes God’s earlier promise to give His people a new heart and a new spirit (Ezekiel 36:26).

The guarantee and message of peace are yours in Christ.

Day 2

About this Plan

Making Peace Our Lifestyle

In this four-day devotional plan, Dr. LaDonna C. Osborn explains how to have a lifestyle of peace. Discussing the guarantee, message, and meaning of peace, she challenges us to put aside negative attitudes and limiting beliefs. Instead, focus on Jesus, the Prince of Peace, who is present with us each day as we follow the way of peace.
