Day 12
Martha
What would I be willing to give up to meet with Jesus? Martha had to ask herself this question; her answer was anything and everything.
Martha was one of the first people in scripture to recognize that Jesus was the Messiah, and she knew that despite the risk of the religious and political leaders in the area, she wanted to show that He mattered most in her life. Jerusalem was close by, and it was common knowledge that the Pharisees and leaders were hunting Jesus down. Martha didn't care. She recognized who Jesus was when most people didn't. She was willing to risk everything to thank Him and minister to His needs.
Yes, she got distracted trying "so hard" to please Him that she overlooked that He was there because He loved her, not because of what she had done or could do. She began to realize that. There is a reason Jesus kept coming back to her home. She welcomed Him. Despite the risk and cost, Martha loved Jesus and wanted Him to feel safe and welcome in her home.
We can learn from Martha to be brave amid oppression and opposition. We can see that Jesus comes where He is welcome. We can also realize that we don't need to impress God. He knows our hearts, and His greatest priority is that we would know His.
Is any fear holding you back from fully opening your heart to Jesus?
Do you feel you must work hard or impress the Lord for Him to notice you?
