The Whole Christmas Story

DAY 25 OF 25

Day 25 (Christmas Day) | Ready and Waiting

Happy Christmas! Unlike Easter Day, this one is reliably on 25 December each year. About this day, everyone knows. If we aren’t ready with the fridge loaded, veggies peeled, gifts wrapped, and stockings stuffed, that’s not because we didn’t know Christmas was coming.

The second coming of Christ is a different matter. The only way we can be ready for that is by keeping watch and being ready all the time.

That doesn’t mean putting everything on pause and sitting in a bunker staring at the sky for the rest of your days. You’ll remember Jesus said he came to bring life to the full. That means that we’re alert to the possibility of his return. It means spending our days such that his sudden arrival won't make us squirm in shame as he catches us doing something we knew we shouldn’t be doing. It means taking the opportunities he gives us to join in his work where we are, every day – not just on Sundays.

And it means never losing hope that the Son of Man will come, and will draw an end to all suffering, evil, and brokenness.

Prayer

Lord God, you do what you say. I believe Jesus will come back in glory. I know it could be in my lifetime, and I want to be ready. Thank you that when you come, you will come in both judgment and mercy, and I have nothing to fear and everything to gain.

Day 24

About this Plan

The Whole Christmas Story

Explore the significance of Jesus' birth in the context of the whole Bible. Starting in Genesis and working to Revelation, you'll see how Christ came to a world worth saving, how human sin affects every part of life, how God promised to redeem all of his creation, and how in Jesus, he made good on that promise.
