DAY 3 OF 20

The Power of the Gospel

Leadership Lesson

Jesus-style leaders know and share the gospel.

Read Romans 1:14–17.

Comment

The gospel is the good news about Jesus and its implications for us. Paul felt both obligated and eager to share the gospel with the people in Rome (1:14–15). He felt obligated because God had revealed the gospel to him and given him the task of sharing it with others (especially the Gentiles). Every Christian has an obligation to share the gospel. We have received and enjoyed the grace of Jesus, and we mustn’t keep this to ourselves. God wants everyone to hear this good news, and He has given us the task of sharing it. It would be wrong (and very selfish) to ignore our obligation. But Paul was also eager to preach the gospel. He had seen the difference God’s powerful gospel had made in his own life, and he desperately wanted the large population in Rome to hear about Jesus and know His freedom and hope. We can cultivate an eagerness to share the gospel by focusing on what Jesus has done for us, celebrating what Jesus has done for others, and praying desperately for those we influence. Sharing the gospel and seeing someone become a follower of Jesus is a highlight of Christian leadership. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Prayer

Thanks for Your grace in enabling me to hear the good news about Jesus and in welcoming me into Your family through Jesus. Where would I be without you, Jesus? I would love the opportunity to share this good news with those who don’t know You yet. Please give me opportunities, Lord. May people be saved through my testimony about You.

Personal Reflection

You need to be prepared to share the gospel. Practise sharing the gospel in a way that would make sense to your friends using the following basic outline:

a. GOD’S INTENTION: God’s original intention for his creation.

b. OUR FAILURE: Our rebellion and failure and its consequences.

c. GOD’S LOVING RESPONSE: The work of Jesus in resolving our failure and its consequences.

d. GOOD NEWS: The results of repentance towards God and faith in Jesus and his work.
