What do you really need more of?

I like nice things, don't you? Because I'm not crafty, I love it when I get nice things as gifts.

Many years ago, a man who loved to give gifts fell in love with me. It was unbelievable how generous he was and how my closet filled up more and more with beautiful clothes and handbags.

Let's be honest with each other: it's very tempting when someone comes along and courts you and you know that all you have to do is say yes, and your financial worries would be solved in one fell swoop.

Let me tell you today, a lot of things are tempting until you realize who God really is.

This man had everything, but he didn't have God. Sure, when you're in need, and someone shows up who can take that need away from you, you're quickly tempted to go that route. Maybe, in your case, it's not a person who smiles seductively at you. Maybe it's a job. Maybe a friendship, but deep down, you feel that can't be the right path.

At that moment, I gave up everything that humanly attracted me to this path, the beautiful gifts and the life that seemed easier at first.

If God doesn't play a part in your life, you will not be concerned about walking His path.

The Bible says: "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6:33-34 NIV)

When I look at those clothes in my closet today, I think, sure, they're nice. But more of the same would have meant nothing to me today. I realize now that I want more of what I have been able to experience with God since that time. He has given me more of what I really need in life.

May I ask you today to reconsider your choices? Nothing in this world is worth compromising your trust in your God! "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…" (Ephesians 3:20 NIV)

You are a miracle!
