Living the Jesus WaySample
Introduction
Deciding to believe in Jesus is just the first step in becoming a disciple. You may have made that decision recently, years ago, or are unsure as to the difference between the two.
A decision is someone who has said yes to the free gift of salvation. Their eternity is secure because His grace is abundant.
They know they can find information on how to live their life in the Bible.
How to draw closer to God.
How to love.
How to forgive.
But making that decision doesn’t cost them anything, because nothing much has changed in their life, habits, or home.
A disciple is someone who is walking daily in step with Jesus and His teaching.
When they're faced with a question, they don’t just answer it, they seek out His guidance. When they're faced with an issue, they don’t just solve it, they seek out His wisdom.
They don’t chart their course in life, they follow the direction of Jesus.
However, one thing you need to know, a disciple still has questions.
They are constantly learning and growing.
Over the next four days, we are going to look at key scriptures where Jesus outlines what it means to be a disciple which will help you grow in your understanding and personal discipleship journey, but first, let’s start with John 14 where Jesus talks with His disciples.
He’s coming towards the end of His ministry and He’s preparing them for what to expect when He’s gone and how to continue walking and working in faith.
Like so many accounts of their conversations, the disciples still had questions.
Questions, that over three years of being together, Jesus had answered by word and deed, yet they still questioned.
When you read this passage today note how compassionate Jesus is towards them. How He addresses each concern.
Discipleship is not an invitation to blind obedience. It’s an invitation to fully informed obedience.
Thomas asks Jesus for directions. Have you ever prayed: “Show me the way”
Philip asks Jesus to show him the Father. Have you ever prayed: “Lord reveal yourself to me”
Your journey towards becoming a disciple of Jesus includes questioning and He explains in scripture what it means to live the Jesus way.
