Christmas Playlistਨਮੂਨਾ

Worthy of whatever
Phil Wickham’s modern rendition of “Away in a Manger” ends with some stirring lyrics about worshiping Jesus for all the days of his life as God, Savior, and King.
That’s a big thing to sing about, because to worship Jesus means to say to Jesus, “You are worthy of whatever. Whatever you say, Jesus. Whatever you want, Jesus.” That’s worship.
Jesus, you want me to go to church? I don’t have much time, but you’re worth it. You want me to be generous with my money? I don’t have a ton of money, but you’re worth it. You want me to love that guy from work? forgive that person from my family? resist the urge to say something snarky about my least favorite politician? That feels impossible, but I’m going to try, because you’re worth it. You say that sex is only for marriage? that marriage is one man and one woman? that I should love her, respect him, no matter what? Um, I’m going to need some help with that one, but I want to, because you’re worth it. You’re worthy. If you left your home and ended up away in a dirty manger to save me and make me clean, you are worth it.
Jesus is your God, Savior, King, and Friend. Consider what he sacrificed despite all your sins. Then you too will sing, along with all of heaven: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain” (Revelation 5:12). He’s worthy of whatever he wants.

About this Plan

Christmas music often offers us much more than nostalgia and fuzzy feelings. In its lyrics we find a God so good that he came down from glory, took on human flesh, and lived as Immanuel—God with us.
