Don’t Waste Your Wait
A source of frustration for many people is that we project our needs onto other people. We hope to live our dreams through them. We’d be content with tagging along on the sidelines as their shadow. Often when we do not find our purpose from God, we hope to find it in other people, placing a heavy burden on them. When these unrealistic expectations are not met, it can damage the relationship.
The parable of the talents in Matthew reminds us that God has invested something in us that he wants us to use to serve him and our generation. God expects us to invest what he has given us into other people, and he will hold us accountable.
I encourage you to take time to ask specifically for God to point you to those resources he already put in you and how to best use them to fulfill your purpose in him. Here are a few pointers that might help you identify what you’re best equipped to do:
- What skills, talents, strengths, and abilities has God placed in you?
- What are the dreams, passions, and desires God has placed in your heart?
- What have your life experiences and education equipped you to do?
The greatest resource we’ve been given on earth is time. We can’t afford to waste time waiting for conditions to be perfect before we invest in those around us. God has a plan and a place for every person he created irrespective of age or marital status. There are no second-class citizens in God’s kingdom. Make it your ultimate goal to find God’s purpose and run with it.
There’s a purpose to every wait. What are you doing with yours?
Reflect
Prayerfully write down as many answers as you can think of to the questions above. Ask God to show you one way you can put one of those to use this week.
