Real Hope: God's Heart for HumanitySample
God’s Heart
As a young boy, the family tradition of a Saturday afternoon drive was confusing to me. What was the point in bouncing aimlessly over heavily rutted backroads to oblivion? In my naïve judgement, I failed to see that the joy in being together outranked the relief of arriving at a destination. This can be a trap for Christians too, can’t it? The temptation can be to bounce through our days drumming our spiritual fingers on the table, longing for the day when heaven is our reality. In doing so we are blind to the relationship God is calling us into right now.
From the opening stanzas of Genesis to the resounding exhortation of Revelation chapter 22, we hear the constant beat of God’s heart to be in relationship with humanity. After all, He formed us in His own image. Dwell on that a moment. The God who brought our planet and all that is on it with a word, knelt down and formed humanity with His hands. More intimate still, He then filled our lungs with His breath!
Across the Old Testament, God relentlessly reached out to humanity. He raised up an entire nation, Israel, to be a beacon of hope to their world. Later, He raised up prophets to share truth, encouragement and at times a warning to return to relationship with Him. And ultimately, He sent His Son to open a gateway to Himself for all of eternity (John 14:6).
Today, take a moment to consider whether you’re waiting life out, or humbly, patiently seeking the giver of life. There is no greater joy in heaven than living in relationship with God here on earth today.
