Seeing Jesus in the Gospel of MarkSample
SON OF GOD AND SON OF MAN
Look Closely:
- As the disciples and Jesus continue their journey toward Jerusalem, Jesus asks them who people say he is and who the disciples think he is. When you look at this encounter, what do you think the faces of the disciples looked like? Confusion? Understanding? Shock and awe? How does this conversation speak to the theme of the Son of God/Son of Man?
- At this point of the Gospel story, it’s unclear to others that Jesus is the Messiah. There is a widespread misconception that the Messiah will be a royal victor – not the son of a humble carpenter. Jesus tells the disciples that the Son of Man must suffer as the Son of God. How do you think that changed or impacted their understanding of Jesus and their role as disciples?

About this Plan
In a world of hostility, corruption, and confusion, a regular guy named Mark wrote his gospel to boldly proclaim that Jesus is THE good news. Mark vividly tells his story with urgency and purpose, giving all of us a front-row seat to the teachings, miracles, discipleship, and life of Jesus. This plan puts you in the story so that you can observe, ask questions, and learn alongside the disciples.
