Purify Your Mind Series (Part 1) by Joe KirbySample
The Art of Bouncing
When you received Christ, an invisible target was put on your back; Satan will throw all of hell at you to try to make you fall. The Devil wants to trip you, and he will use whoever and whatever he can to throw you into a ditch. Because we have faith in Jesus, we are declared righteous by God, but that doesn’t mean we’re perfect. God will be continually transforming, shaping, and molding us until the day we die.
I don’t have to tell you that Christians fall; this book wouldn’t be in your hand if that were not the case. But the Christian life is not about how fast you can run, it’s not about how high you can climb—it’s about how well you bounce.
The important thing is not what made you fall; neither is it the amount of times you have fallen. The important thing is that when you fall, you rise again. When my son first learned to walk, it was a frustrating experience. He took two steps, then fell; he got back up and took three steps, then fell; he took four steps, then fell. He repeated this 100 times, maybe 500 times, until eventually . . . what do you think happened? He learned to walk without falling! That’s my prayer for you and me—that we learn to walk the Christian life without falling. But if we do fall, don’t stay down, don’t think God has given up on you. Look up and you’ll see the risen Lord Jesus holding his hand out, ready to lift you back on your feet again.
