Retirement Rocks: A 14-Day Reading Plan for All That Free TimeSample
"I've always been a night owl," Franky explained as he set his cup of coffee on the restaurant table. “Had to be. I worked the night shift. But these days?”
“You’re confused?” his friend Ward asked.
“That’s putting it mildly! My body doesn’t know if I should be awake or asleep at any given time. So, I spend a lot of time going back and forth between the two. I need to get back on a regular schedule, because I’m not getting enough rest, that’s for sure.” A yawn escaped, as if to prove his point. “If God does have a wife out there for me, she’s going to have to put up with my crazy hours.”
“Oh, I suspect she’ll retrain you,” Ward said and then laughed. “Spouses have a way of doing that, you know.”
“I guess we’ll see about that, if and when it ever happens.” Franky picked up his cup of coffee, deep in thought.
Maybe you can relate. You’ve always been a morning person. Now you’re off schedule. And you’re doing that catch-as-catch-can approach to sleeping and waking—a couple of hours here, a couple of hours there. That’s fine for a while, but you would feel better with consistent, steady rest.
So, what’s a body to do? Set a new schedule and try to stick with it! Work with your natural body clock to determine the best time to sleep and wake. Don’t worry! You’ll settle into a routine if you give this part of your life to the Lord.
Lord, I know You care about my body clock. Help me do the necessary work to be in tip-top shape, well rested, and refreshed! Amen.
