The Defiant LifeSample
Defy Your Station
Your station or position in life cannot define what you or God can or cannot do in your life. The Bible is filled with countless stories of how one’s station in life doesn’t define one’s destiny. We see a prisoner called Joseph become a national leader in a foreign land. Joseph had been sold into slavery and eventually wrongfully imprisoned for years. The trajectory of his life seemed like a never-ending downward spiral. Although he was a diligent worker in prison, it seemed as though that was as far as his life would go, merely supervising prisoners as he did his time. But God’s purpose for his life defied his confinement. Instead, God’s purpose was bigger than his present circumstances. However, God strategically used Joseph’s circumstances at the time to connect him to the right people and eventually catapult him from prison and bring him before the most powerful man of that time, Pharaoh, king of Egypt. In one day, Joseph went from being a prisoner to becoming second in charge because God was with him.
Similarly, we read countless stories in the Bible where God defied people’s station or position in life to outwork his greater plans through them. We read of an orphan becoming queen, a shepherd becoming king, slaves becoming rulers, fishermen and a murderer becoming apostles, and a humble carpenter is revealed as the Messiah. The irony of it all is beyond words. Evidently, there’s more to you than meets the eye. God is not limited by your current position in life. In fact, he uses everything you have experienced to propel you into your destiny. Don’t be short-sighted by the here and now and lose sight of the bigger picture of what God is orchestrating in your life. Be faithful where you are but be prepared to step into bigger things as they come. So often, we despise where we are and our current work because we fail to see that God is in it. Imagine if David had said to himself, “I have no business being on the battlefield because I am just a shepherd boy.” He would have missed his destiny-defining moment because he was blind-sighted by his station in life at that moment in time.
Similarly, don’t be defined and limited by what you do in life right now because God has more in store for you. Let him guide your steps along the best paths for your life.
About this Plan
