Letters to My Daughter

DAY 6 OF 6

Day 6: Seeking Wisdom

My Daughter,

The story of Solomon came to my mind today and I want to share some fatherly insight with you about King Solomon.

When He was preparing to become king, he did the most important thing first: He prayed. He asked for wisdom and this was God’s response:

10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this.11 So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice,12 I will do what you have asked.I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.

1 Kings 3: 10-12

Take a moment and think about how God was pleased that Solomon asked for wisdom and how, because Solomon asked, God gave wisdom to him. The Bible says that we should ask God for wisdom and it will be given to us (James 1:5). Sometimes people assume that this is for situations only – but that’s not the case! While it’s important to ask God for wisdom regarding certain situations, it’s also just as important to ask God for our day-to-day lives. Such as,

-Wisdom to seek His face

-Wisdom to speak His words to people

-Wisdom to be organized

-Wisdom in relationships

-Wisdom in what your ministry is in this season

God loves to be talked to (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Even if you have a gift in an area, asking God to express or expand this gift is His delight! His gifts in you are how He enjoys Himself in your story together with Him.

I know you have much going on in your life. You’re interacting with many people and balancing so much. When you’re as busy as you are, it’s important to seek Him to guide you in every decision you make.

Love you much!

Dad
