Nelson Mandela grew up in a nation saturated with hate. Under the wicked apartheid system, which institutionalized racial discrimination, Mandela was tried and imprisoned several times. Despite constant provocation, he never retaliated. Instead, Mandela inspired others to oppose oppression and deprivation with wisdom. Mandela lived the truth that love and hate are choices.

Choosing to love aligns us with the heart of God. God Himself is love, so making the daily decision to spurn hate and practice love brings me closer to Him. Genesis 1:27 declares that God created every human being in His image. This means we are made to love, not hate. . . .

Be an Angel: Pause for a moment, to take stock of what our lives are currently “teaching” the people around us? Are our words—at home, at work, online—filled with love or with something else? Are there ways in which you might want to change? Today is a wonderful day to commit anew to love.
