Leaving a Legacy

DAY 1 OF 3

Make yourself accountable to the people in your life.

Samuel held himself responsible to the people, as seen throughout his life. Samuel tried himself as his last act as a prophet and judged Israel. Samuel exposed his entire life to the public and allowed anyone who so desired to testify against him. To be able to declare, like Samuel, "Here I stand," when we say goodbye to this world, we must live our Christian lives with integrity. Witness against me. I always urge people to live in such a way that no one has to tell a lie about them on their deathbeds in my church, especially the young people. If we maintain such high standards, we will undoubtedly be able to leave behind a legacy for future generations.

Being responsible for the people in your life is crucial. It's crucial to be open to listening to their advice and accepting their correction when it's called for. It would be beneficial if you were always prepared to put yourself on trial. You are your rival. Jesus was smacked across the face by a temple guard, to which he said, "If I said anything wrong, you must prove it. But why are you striking me if I'm telling the truth? (John 18:22-23) Even the apostle Paul displays transparency and openness in his farewell address to the Ephesus elders. He reminds them that during his three-year ministry with them, he never hesitated to preach the entirety of God's will and that he continually watched over and cared for them (Acts 20:25-35).

Know that each of us will have to account to God personally when we leave this earth (Romans 14:12). Everything in the universe is visible to God; nothing is concealed from Him. He is the one to whom we must eventually answer (Hebrews 4:13). Make yourself answerable to everyone God has placed in your life as the first step to keeping a good reputation in the eyes of God and people.
