“A Great Defender Fighting For Me”

Big Idea:

Psalm 28 concludes with David rejoicing in God because He heard and answered his prayer. So, David ascribes praise to the Lord for answering his prayer. He called on the Lord for help and received it. God heard David and responded to his prayer by being David’s strength and shield. This blessing is given to those who trust God; He is their strength. The strength of God is demonstrated in our weakness (2 Cor. 12: 8-9).

We can draw on God’s strength when we have weaknesses, difficulties, and tribulations. He does not always remove the struggles, but with His power, He strengthens us so we can endure difficult seasons in His strength—knowing that just like David, we are victorious because of God. We see through this Psalm that he trusted God despite all David endured. Trusting God is vital to spiritual recovery because of the understanding that the Lord has not promised His people an untroubled life, but He has promised to be with them always. He is always by our side, guiding, covering, protecting, and hiding us.

Reflection:

David rejoiced because God hid him, strengthened him, and gave him victory, and He can give the same to you. So, if you are troubled by life circumstances, just know that the strength of God is upholding you even now.

Personal Reflection:

We are living in the era of “self-help” books and podcasts. Although these are great ways to be encouraged, David presents a spiritual lesson of genuine help when he confesses the character of God. So, today, meditate on these questions and write down your answers: Who is God to you? How has He been your protector, refuge, security, and help? Then, write down affirmations that reveal His character as a dependable God and how God has been your protection. Read these back and let them resonate in your heart!

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I rejoice in You and praise your name for all the times You have come to my rescue. Thank you for being a God that puts your love for me on display. You have been reliable and dependable, and you have guided me. You ordered my steps, and my days are planned by You. Thank You for keeping me safe and hiding me under the shadows of your wings. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, AMEN!
