He Said, She Says: The Power of Praying God's WordSample
You Have Giants Too
Giants are all around us. Take, for example, the cow dog living next door. To me, BJ the dog (Brownie Junior) is a playful country dog who stays outside of the neighbor’s home, barking at their horses by day and howling with the coyotes by night. But to an age 7 Cole, he was a giant, meat-eating predator.
Cole never told me he was fearful of BJ, and I really don’t think he was until one Wednesday evening right before sunset. It was Cole’s turn to take out the trash. Living in the country, that task meant rolling the trash can from the garage up the long driveway to the county road at the top of the hill. And guess whose fenceless yard touched the side of our driveway? BJ’s.
Here’s what I knew that Cole didn’t: BJ wore a remote training collar that gave him a tiny vibration and beeping noise if he got too close to his electric, invisible fence. BJ had never once crossed that unseen line.
So as Cole hesitantly rolled the garbage toward the top of the hill, BJ peered from his porch. And the more racket those squeaky trashcan wheels made, the more irritated BJ got. Then it happened. BJ charged straight toward Cole, ready to pounce. At the very moment BJ reached the boundary of his invisible fence, Cole placed his hand in the air and authoritatively commanded “STOP.” And, as though in perfectly timed obedience, BJ came to a screeching halt.
“Wow…” I heard Cole mutter in amazement as I watched from the garage door.
What words had I spoken over Cole before his trek up the hill?
“BJ is huge!”
“Have you seen what that dog does to his stuffed toys?”
“Wow… I’ve never heard a bark that loud!”
No. While all of those statements would have been true, what I said to Cole was what aligned with the greater truth I knew: “You’ll be fine. BJ won’t hurt you.”
So when BJ charged at Cole, Cole didn’t scream for help. Cole didn’t say, “He’s so big! Get me outta here!” No, Cole simply and confidently said, “STOP.” His words and actions aligned with the truth he believed from his mother.
Are your words and actions about your giants aligning with the truth you believe from your Father and from His Word? Consider reading these verses aloud.
