What Africa Can Teach Us AllSample
AIDS: More to Do
In a world full of huge challenges, we all want to declare “Mission Accomplished,” check things off our list and move on. Many have done just that with AIDS. But should that be our response? We have made so much progress, and the numbers of those affected are slowing, but still rising. There is so much more to do in combating AIDS globally.
In today’s Missiographic we look at the status of HIV/AIDS, key accomplishments in the fight against the disease, and the work that is left to be done. Did you know that about 26 million HIV+ individuals are in sub-Saharan Africa and only 39% of them are on antiretroviral treatment? While great progress has been made in the fight to end the AIDS epidemic globally, the Church should not be ready to call it a victory and move on.
Personal Reflection
When is the last time you thought about the AIDS crisis? Years ago it was one of the main issues that the global community was wrestling with. But is it even on your radar anymore? Take a moment to celebrate some of the successes and then ask yourself how you might be a part of helping with the significant work that is left to be done.
Prayer
Dear God, we pray that You will be with every person who is suffering from AIDS. Help them to know Your love and receive Your comfort. We pray that this love and comfort will come in part through the response of Your Church. Give us courage and persistence as a Global Church to continue addressing the issues behind AIDS and the impact it has on lives and families. Amen

About this Plan
As a Christian, what do you think about when Africa comes up in conversation? Africa is a diverse continent with amazing people, cultures, and natural resources. It is also a continent that has struggled through famine, wars, disease, and instability. The good and bad have much to teach us. So let’s learn from our African brothers and sisters in Christ. Here are some examples: Can you quote any African proverbs? Do you know what African Christians are reading? How long has it been since you thought about AIDS or Ebola? Have you prayed for the leadership of Africa? Adventure into Africa the next 7 days with your eyes and heart open, ready to consider the challenges and opportunities that God might place before you.
