Real Hope: Aligning Our Heart With God'sSample
Search Me, God
Psalm 139 is a psalm about who God is and how the truth of who He is changes our hearts. In this psalm, we’re reminded that God is all-knowing, and ever-present. In this psalm, we learn that we’re known by God, that we were created by Him, that He is in control, and that we are never alone. This whole psalm is also a prayer that focuses our hearts on God and who we’re considering He is. AW Tozer writes, ‘We can never know who or what we are till we know at least something of what God is.’
Psalm 139 is the perfect prayer as we enter a new year, with all the challenges and unknowns we have yet to face. In the last two verses, we see a plea by King David for God to search his heart and lead him ‘in the way everlasting’. Another way of saying this is, ‘in a path that persists and endures’. This is such a powerful prayer – in these few words, so much vulnerability, yet such trust.
The NIV Study Bible commentary says, ‘Nowhere (outside of Job) does one find expressed such profound awareness of how awesome it is to ask God to examine not only one’s life but also one’s soul.’ As we head into a new year full of unknowns, let’s take a moment to pray this prayer of David. Search our hearts Lord, and ‘lead [us] in the way everlasting’.
Whatever this year might bring, because of who He is, we are always loved and never alone.

About this Plan
The end of a year brings time to reflect upon all that was and all that God has done, and to start to prepare and hope for all that is to come in the new year. It’s also a time for us to think about where our heart is when it comes to God and His will and purpose for our life; to perform a heart check – to put things in place and align our heart to Him as we step into a new year.
